It all started with a challenge that I wanted to run a half marathon, I was running on my own for about 4-5 miles then I used to see this group running and thought I'd love to join them. I did a search on Facebook and come across the Dragons... That's them, I found them, joined the club and haven't looked back since.
I joined about 2 months before Merthyr half and I can honestly say if it wasn't for me joining the club I would never have completed the race.
The club encouraged me and pushed me all the way to get fitter, stronger and mentally tougher.
Merthyr Half Marathon was my first ever race, what a race it was. I thought it was hilly and very challenging in places. The steep hill in the middle was a killer but the Dragons "hill training" certainly helped. I ran it with Luke (another Dragon) and we pushed each other all the way to the finish line.
The support on the Merthyr half route was incredible and it certainly helped on the last few miles, the Dragons support was out In force and all I heard was... "Come on you Dragons!"
I have been with the club about 9 months now and I wouldn't change it for the world, the banter is class and the help and support along the way has been immense... I truly am one proud Dragon and hope to be part of the club for many years to come!

On 24th October 8 hardy Dragons braved the elements to take part in the Snowdonia Marathon.
The weather at the start was damp to say the least, but with the words of Coach Dally ringing in our ears (it’s only rain, you’re not made of crepe paper, you won’t dissolve) we all started in good spirits. The route was demanding and spectacular; deemed by many to be the toughest marathon course in the UK it certainly tested our stamina.
The uphill bits were very uphill and very long but the downhills were fantastic – we were certainly glad we’d spent so much time running up Sierra Pines and the Glyn Neath Bank in training! The support from spectators was amazing (and bilingual which was a first!) and provided some very welcome encouragement in those darker moments!
The event organisers did a brilliant job, it was a hassle free experience for us as runners which definitely took away at least some of the stress.
For me the best bit about running the Snowdonia Marathon was running it as a Dragon, alongside other Dragons, with the support of a top Dragon supporter team along the way; Angela Williams and her team appeared with the famous cowbell at least 4 times on the route – it was very much appreciated!
Would I do it again? Yes definitely, it was a fantastic event and a brilliant weekend.

The Dragons try to encourage as many people to participate in organised events. We will try to organise transport and a celabrational drink post run. If competing is not for you, then come along to support.
Below is a list of some of our favourite events.
